Default Favorite Fighting Game/Series

I noticed that there are a lot of fighting game fans here. So I ask the question: What is your favorite fighting game or series?

Mine is without a doubt the SoulCalibur series.

Timeless and fantastic characters (best of any fighting game imo), deep but fun gameplay, epic music, and always has fantastic graphics.

Afterwards would be: Guilty Gear, KOF, and Arcana Heart.

Let's see... my favorite fighting game series is Guilty Gear. This was a pretty tough decision for me because I also love the Soul Calibur series.

I chose the GG series because the characters are great and they're all so different! My favorites are definitely May, A.B.A, Johnny, and, of course, (President) Chipp.

But my runner-ups, in order, are definitely: Soul Calibur, KOF, and Arcana Heart

Dude. Soul Calibur is sick as everything. I have the first one[well second actually...but you know that deal lol] for Dreamcast and my goodness...I had never played it before until I got it[which was like 2 years ago]. Gameplay mechanics are perfect. Not even kidding. Nothing wrong with it. Tried II out on the GC a few days ago. It was fun, but I hadn't played 1 in so long, I was rusty. =P

Sorry for the long explanation, but it'll allow you to see my confusion and fascination with fighters.

First fighter I ever played: Fatal Fury 2 on Genesis

Second: Art of Fighter and SSF II: The New Challengers were around the same time frame. AoF might've been a bit sooner

Third: Tekken 2

Ok so you can see i've got quite a jumbled mass of games that I played near my earlier years. FF was a blast. Didn't really know what I was doing when I first played it. Tekken I caught on immediately. That game rocks hardcore. But to make it short...

Street Fighter is my series. KoF is wonderful as well though. But I really jumped on the SF train hardcore about 8 or 9 years ago and it just grew from there. But it also led me to SC and back to FF and stuff. I want to try out Samurai Shodown though. That Anthology is looking mighty nice.

P.S. Virtual On is considered a fighting game, but I really don't think it fits in with the type we're talking about. If it did, that would be my favorite though. No second thoughts. Obviously my favorite.

*sigh* I actually do not like most fighting games because of their rigidity and confining nature. However, I was astonished by Dead or Alive 4 (and no, it was not for the reasons you think). The movements in Dead or Alive 4 are the most fluid I have ever seen in a fighting game, and the environments are vibrantly colored and alive. The only negatives that I can think of are that the characters look cartoonish and the females have ridiculous body proportions, not to mention the most outlandishly revealing fashions imaginable. But on a positive note of character design, the hair is probably the closest thing we have to realistic long hair rendering in a game. If you haven’t noticed, long hair is almost always avoided or made simpler with a ponytail (Infinite examples). Either that or it is clumped up in a single plank, sometimes with several other planks to make it look a bit less awful (Trish from DMC 4). But I’m still waiting for a quality fighting game that has a 3D playing field. Dissidia was a disappointment for me, and Power Stone is just too immature. (._.)

Sure, sure. Whatever. Hahaha! Nah just kidding. I think I played DOA 2...in arcades once a long time ago. At the time it was like...awesomely great. But I haven't played since. The juggling in that game is like...ridiculous I know, though.

Well, I am actually am one of those guys who only likes women shaped like Kate Moss, Twiggy, or Keira Knightley, basically thin and boney, so the chest sizes in DOA (and so many other games) really make me nauseous. (╬ ಠ益ಠ)

I prefer most SNK games but in the long run I love fighting games in general. Soul Calibur would be one of my top favorites, I just wish #4's online play was so laggy. Street Fighter 4 was ok, it was just street fighter with better graphics, nothing spectacular. Guilty Gear is another awesome game. I think the one game I don't care for is Dead or Alive.

Yeah, Street Fighter 4 was just 2 again with better graphics. I found it pretty disappointing. Third Strike is still the only SF I thoroughly enjoyed. And the Dead or Alive series is without a doubt my least favorite mainstream fighting series. heh.

My favorite 3D fighting game series is Dead or Alive, without a doubt. Soul Calibur is a close second, and I used to have trouble deciding between Virtua Fighter or Dead or Alive. But honestly, while VF is deep as hell, Dead or Alive is just FUNNER. It's faster, the animation is fluid, the fighting- aside from the Izuna Drop- is all very realistic, and dropping your opponent off waterfalls, mountains, churches etc is just fun. It was incredible the first time it happened in Dead or Alive 2. My favorite of the series is definitely 4, because of the increase in speed and additional moves. I do love 2 for being the one that really set the mood for the rest of the series, and for the countless unlockable costumes.

Favorite 2D series is Darkstalkers. Samurai Showdown and Guilty Gear are close follow-ups though, and I also love King of Fighters and Last Blade. Darkstalkers just has wacky horror characters with incredible animation and over the top moves. I really wish Capcom would bring it back.

XD! This is true from a roster standpoint mostly. The gameplay leans more towards II Turbo as well. But the FA can somewhat be manipulated as a semi-parry[III] and then we have super canceling[to a degree, ala SFA]. But all in all yes...it is II Turbo. But II Turbo is like Capcom's bread and butter so, Capcom made a pretty smart move to do IV the way they did it. But oh my gosh Third Strike...absolutely gorgeous. Animation, gameplay and fluidity of the game as a whole. One of my favorite games ever. I rate Third Strike above SFIV for now...but I think as I get more time with IV it'll move up. :P
