Thumbs up Platinum Games + Grasshopper Manufacture x Ex-Smilebit Crew = Jet Set Radio Sequel

I really do want companies to work on unique IP's, but this one has been my secret fantasy for a long time.

I am and was a BIG Jet Set Radio fan. I own both games for the Dreamcast and X-Box and I am still waiting for a third one. In fact, Jet Set Radio was the game that made me decide that my future was to work in the Video Game Industry.

With so few companies not making any true original games today, I think SEGA has the right tools at the right time to bring this franchise back. And they need to bring it back in a sea of FPS, JRPGs and Mini-Game Compilations.

I really could see such a pairing work. Have the old Smilebit members from SEGA as co-project heads to help keep the game as stylish and kinetic as the originals where.

Then I say put Atsushi Inaba as main producer (that is if he wants to) and get Goichi Suda as the director. Have the best from each team work on the game. I also say bring the old music talent back such as Hideki Naganuma and Richard Jacques back on board. New talent and tunes would defiantly be needed, my suggestions are DJ QBert, Shakkazombie, Masafumi Takada, Jamiroquai, Ken Ishii, Arctic Monkeys, Yoshida Brothers, Early Man, Naoto Tanaka and Dieselboy for a start.

Even though I exclusively own a Wii, I would not care what console it is on either. I just want to see it happen!

Thoughts?

My thoughts that only smilebit should be allowed to handle the next JSR.

Suda will probably make the game look 353% weirder :P
Inaba is cool, but I think the only people who can achieve a sequel with the same spirit are smilebit... but look at their condition now T_T.

I, however, would like to see PlatinumGames Remaking Comix Zone on PSN/XBLA. its like VJ+Madwordl!

The thing about SmileBit is that they are reabsorbed back into the company. So some of the staff at SEGA are now part of SEGA instead of a seperate entity.

Since SEGA is having problems making games internally, they really seem to have no problem in licensing out their property to other developers to work on. Hence my suggestion.

If you play MadWorld, it really slaps you in the face how the people at Platinum could really nail a Jet Set Radio sequel. Plus since the game is not gory, the team could actually like a project for once.

WOW, I seriously just joined the forums to post that I thought PlatinumGames would make an AMAZING Jet Set Radio game!

Just look at Viewtiful Joe and MADWORLD! They are very similar to JSR's wacky aesthetics and art style! Throw in some acrobatic movements ala Devil May Cry and Bayonetta with PlatinumGames top notch character designers and it would be a masterpiece.

It is almost like it should be destiny, right, now that PG is with SEGA.
Time to fish out all the SmileBit people and get them with PG and make an amazing sequel. I say it should be for PS3 and 360 honestly, and maybe have a Wii-Exclusive one as well with different functionality.

I bet this would sell like CRAZY! There are so many people who want JSR back!

(I think SUDA and Grasshopper collaborating would be amazing too.)

You know what I think SEGA and Platinum are made for each other it seems to me that allot of PGs fans ARE Sega fans already because of games like Jet Set Radio, REZ and many more.

I do hope that SEGA and PG stick togeather forever, I also hope that Platinum work on some old Sega IPs... They could probably do a good job with JSR BUT I think frankly I would prefer Smilebit to do the next one.

However, I would really like to see Platinum games take a crack at a new Comix Zone... A new Comix Zone in the same vain as Viewtiful Joe would be fantastic, I seriously need that game to happen and I think PG would do a fantastic job of it.

Personally, while I love that Sega and PlatinumGames are working together, I'd rather Sega let PlatinumGames do their own thing and have Sega's original teams, or what's left of them, create sequels to their forgotten titles. I loved the Jet Set Radio games, but I'd rather Smilebit, or the people who are still with Sega make a new one, just as I wouldn't want a Shenmue without Yu Suzuki and AM2. Like when Sega tried to revive Panzer Dragoon; Team Andromeda was disolved but a lot of the original members were a part of Smilebit, so they had them handle it. If you don't have the original creators, it simply doesn't feel the same. Take the new House of the Dead for example. The original series was this cheesy horror film game, now it's taking a ridiculous grindhouse feel to it. I'm not saying it's bad, but it doesn't really feel like it's part of the same series at all.
I'd rather PlatinumGames just develop their own unique IPs and if they so choose, make series out of them. It's not good to stifle such creativity by making them work on something that's already been established. Same goes for Grasshopper, though they've actually developed games from other properties; see: Fatal Frame IV, Samurai Champloo, Blood+.

I'd be all for a Platinum/Grasshopper collaboration, though, if it were a unique title. Get Q? Entertainment in there somehow as well and you have my independent game developer nerd orgy come true. ;p

I agree that the people of SmileBit should handle it but I think SmileBit working with other people like PG and Suda would make the game amazing! It would add a whole new dynamic to the franchise! SUDA's crazy storylines and humor (that would work PERFECTLY with the JSR series), PlatinumGames star players like Kamiya handling some mechanics (just look at the movement of the Devil May Cry series and how everything is graded on "style" just like JSR), then of course have SmileBit come in with their amazing character design and give the game the JSR feel.

Just for fun, throw in Bayonetta and Jack as playable characters haha!

I LOVE THE IDEA!! It's perfect! I came into Jet Set Radio a bit late, but that doesn't change the fact that it is one of my favorite games ever. I think that having Atsushi Inaba is a GREAT idea, and I also agree with having SUDA-51 to help with it, but I do think that he shouldn't have TOO much of an influence in its making.

And the fact that Platinum Games is with SEGA is PERFECT! If this were to come to fruition than I can guarantee that it would sell like crazy! If this were to be announced I, along with many, many others, would be sooo excited! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLATINUM GAMES, MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!

If ever there's gonna be a game made by these two teams, I want it to be a Mad World meets No More Heroes game: you know, a coop mode with Travis and Jack, who instead of fighting each other choice to kill everyone else, to win the games and defeat the top assassin in Santa Destroy, who happens to be the first player of the games too. So awesome!
I think that Sega prefers Headstrong for making old IPs: after all Overkill was amazing (My game of the year till Mad World came), they deserve this spot.
