Jeff Gerstmann does not like it on the evidence of this..

I actually agree with almost everything the OP says about the game. I think it has many fundamental flaws which prevent it from being a great game. It's a shame... I hope PG takes on board many of the criticisms being banded around about the game and do not listen to too much hype, I hope they create a far better sequel, a game truly for the hardcore, because for me, this is not.

I'm sure PlatinumGames is open to criticisms. I too am disappointed by how it turned out, it's a shame that it's flaws are so noticeable. If there is a sequel, I think they will be able to fix a lot of these problems and it can be a really awesome game.

First off, lets start with the bad (because I want to end this on a good note):

The camera could be very problematic at times, some of which are during the worst times like a boss battle.

The lock-on system was also a problem with me, I think that it would've been better to have a one button-press lock-on system instead of the hold-button.

The game did get a bit repetitive after a while in that the only weapon that you really need is the chainsaw, and that also brings up the fact that, even though they were really fun to do and watch, the death struggles were, at times, difficult to initiate and that could be costly.

Okay, now the good:

I LOVE the fact that black, white, and red are the only colors in the game, it gives it a nice style.

The commentary made by Howard "Buckshot" Holmes and Kreese Kreeley really made the game feel a lot more fun and they added a lot of humor that would have been missed otherwise.

The game is VERY fun to play, and there are always many ways to kill the enemies, whether it's slamming multiple road signs in their head, then putting a tire on them and then murdering them in a rose bush, to many other ways, it's always fun.

The story was surprisingly good, even though it did seem to be "in the background" a bit.
And, not to spoil it, but the last battle was by far the best battle in the entire game! Very, very fun.

Overall I give it a 9 out of 10 (rounded from a high 8).
Great game,I hope to see a sequel with the problems fixed.

-Funny commentators!
-Great bosses.
-Interesting style (works really well)
-GOOOORE... Monsterkill!
-The story is an important drive, or the game might get a little uninteresting in my opinion

Dislikes:
-A few very-often repeatet comments.
-Sometimes quicktime-motions are very hard to do. The level with the "wannabe-grim reaper" a zombie grabs you and you are instantly killed if you fail the event. Often I was killed even though I performed the motion as good and fast as I could. Its a very heavy penelty to kill the player for not performing a task like that.
-The multiplayer does not work very well. Occational poor framerate, I haven't noticed if you can change from vertical to horisontal screen split.
-Black bars and 50hz only

I've played very few games in my life: I tried to play as many masterpieces as I could, but of course I cannot cover all the years I lost before this generation. Till Mad World, I've always thought as my top 3 games F-Zero (Snes), Resident Evil 4 (Wii) and Twilight Princess (Wii). In this order. But Mad World is just so awesome. The gameplay is the best on the Wii, the animations are great, the graphics impressive. But let's speak of serious stuff: the level design. So great: I've always felt as I was playing in an arena, as if I were seryously into a game, I didn't get this feeling just because the story plot told me so. Jack is an awesome char, like almost everyone else out there. To me, it's a 10/10 game, period.

I wanted to post here a while back, but I Wanted to complete teh game first, and life happened to get in teh way of that for a while. So now...

Dislikes:
-Lock on functionality seems loose and not reliable. It also seems to disengage at in opportune times.
-The backflip always makes you move backwards relative to the direction Jack is facing. You learn to work with this, but I think it may have been better to have had it as a directional dodge that was used in conjuction with the analog stick.
-Movelist is short. While I certainly don't expect Devil May Cry in terms of a move list, I think I would have liked to see more moves attached to the button combinations and wii remote swings.
-Lack of gameplay diversity. I thought the motorcycle sections were good, but I think I would have liked to see more like it. Even the part where you had to fight zombies that could onlly be killed by cutting them up or some other form of extreme dismemberment. It would be nice to have seen more enemies that could only be killed a certain way.
-I would have liked to play as multiple characters as an added feature.
-No 480p support. I'm not super disappointed at the lack of it, but I would have liked to have it in the game.

Likes:
-Story. I was surprised to find how interesting the story of the game was. Many of the characters were quite interesting and I was indeed quite interested in finding out what would happen next.
-Graphical style. Very well done on all fronts. The graphics of the game look really nice in every area relative to other Wii games. The black and white wasn't even that hard to get used to.
-Humor was used really well in the game. From the enemies that run and fight over meat buns, and ninjas that will attack a pirate hat for no reason, to all the funny killing methods like the roulette with people's heads.
-Commentary is very funny. Well done there. Even when lines are repeated, some of the things said are funny enough that I don't mind at all.
-Environmental diversity. There were a lot of nice places to run around and kill guys and they all seemed filled with new things to discover.
-The weapons Jack could use were fun, and helped mix up the gameplay with the moveset, context sensitive kills, and other things.
-Boss fights were fun to figure out.
-The learning curve of the game was really well done. The game felt really easy in the beginning, but around the time you get to the castle you realize that you can't be so careless in fighting.
-The soundtrack is really good. I would have liked it if each boss had their own song, but other than that, there are no complaints.

Overall, it was a fun game. One that I had to grow into a little, but once I did I enjoyed it thoroughly. At the same time, I don't think it had much by way of replay value from what I could tell. It does make me happy to have a Wii game of this type though. I don't think it owuld be the same on any other console.

Hands down, this is my vote for 'Wii Game of the Year'.

If not that, then I'll settle for 'Most Original Game' or 'Most Stylish Game' of the year.

The crazy humor and hilarious commentary mixed with arcade-styled mechanics made this game an instant classic. (Haven't taken it out of my Wii yet.)

Heck, it's this gen's 'God Hand'!

I finally started playing MadWorld and so far it's been a very enjoyable experience. The game's humor is fantastic (loved the pirates vs ninjas reference) and it's always a joy to hear Greg Proops and John DiMaggio bickering as I brutally assault assorted goons.

As the others have stated, there are some downsides:

- The camera's been a BIG pain in the butt. Argh!

- It's a shame the commentators start repeating themselves so much. Granted, some lines (******* in a can) never get old.

I'm not too far in the game, but so far it's shaping up to be one of my all-time favorites.
